unlike is a space for people who create art: artists or art workers, recognized as such or not. It offers and develops new ways to create and present works, and to generate economies and communities around them.

unlike is developed by its participants, who govern the economic resources it gathers. It is not an NFT platform, or a DAO, but uses such technologies as tools for economy, community and visibility. Its aim is to expand the possible discourses of arts, with tools to gather resources for their realisation.

unlike in a nutshell:

  • The works offered through unlike gather economic resources not just for their creator, but also to the community (which the creator is a part of).
  • The resources of the community form a pool for new initiatives. Anyone from the community can express new offerings, and participate in the decisions about other offerings, and even collaborate in their realisation.

Offerings of unlike:

  • Offerings can ask for any types of resources, from economic to materials, places or technologies. They can also ask for effort and skill that others could contribute.
  • To lighten the work of co-governance, offerings of unlike are not traditional votes. Rather, they are filled: If an offering fills all its needs, it is accepted.
  • Each peer of unlike has a monthly "share" from the economic resources of unlike which they can use to (partially) fill the economic needs of others' offerings.

Becoming part of unlike:

  • Anyone can propose a contribution to unlike, whether an artwork, a resource or participation in an initiative of unlike.
  • If the contribution is accepted, its creator becomes a peer in unlike.

Works of unlike can be offered in multiple ways, and multiple times:

  • A work can be offered as an idea or a draft, to generate the community and economy around its growth.
  • A "finished" work can be represented in many forms, each being a different offering.
  • A work can be a seed for another, contributing into new works.

The offering system allows the development of diverse micro-economics and micro-communities within unlike. Its model enables practical discourses around co-production, shared authorship and collaborative frameworks, short or long term.

Any technology unlike uses or develops is open-source, and the development of new open-source instruments for art is a welcome part of the community, and offerings made within it.
